Amounts and compositions of substrates
Digester technology

Especially in the use of waste in biogas plants, it is questionable whether the composition of substrates can guarantee a stable biogas plant operation. Experience shows that there are always problems in process biology leading to high costs and revenue shortfalls.

With the help of the simulation software BioTip, which is developed by FITEC and the BIFA- Umweltinstitut Augsburg (environment institute) under the High-tech Offensive Bayern, we can simulate the expected biochemical parameters in a given biogas process up to 180 days in advance. The biogas and methane yield, the concentration of organic acids, the pH value, the buffer capacity and the concentration of organisms and their growth rate are determined. The sensitivity of the system to interference can be determined by probabilistic consideration.

The foundations of the program are validated and the applicability of the simulation was verified on existing biogas plants.

To carry out a simulation calculation the substance description (bio waste, food, etc.), its composition (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, water content and content of inert substances) have to be known.

With the help of the simulation a selection of substrates in terms of price / performance to optimize the yields from waste and energy revenues are taken.
